BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Chicken may be back on the menu on Tuesday evening in Bismarck. The city commission will discuss an idea to allow backyard poultry.
City commissioner John Risch is appealing the denial of a zoning ordinance text amendment that would allow chickens to be kept within city limits and to eliminate setback requirements for coops within residential properties. Commissioner Risch said he's looking forward to the meeting. "I am pretty optimistic," Risch said.
Risch noted that the outcome of Tuesday's meeting will not guarantee the zoning change but will allow debate on the issue to continue: "If we have a public hearing, we can hear from both sides."
