JASPER COUNTY, Texas — A 30-acre grass fire has been reported in Jasper County.
The fire is taking place just off Withers Cemetery Rd. near FM 1004 W. Texas A&M Forest Service had listed the fire as 0% contained as of 2:08 p.m. Monday, but as of 4:07 p.m., had successfully contained 90% of the fire.
Jasper County is among 179 counties included in Texas' wildfire disaster declaration updated by Gov. Abbott over the weekend. The full declaration can be found here .
Texas A&M Forest Service said the expanded wildfire danger comes from dry vegetation in East Texas as well as increased winds and above-average temperatures. The Wildland Fire Preparedness Level is currently at Level 3 . The governor's office said more than 50 wildfires have burned more than 3,000 acres across Texas.
