SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After facing some setbacks, an $18 million dollar mixed-use development project could come to fruition in downtown Spartanburg. On Monday the development agreement will go before city council tonight for the first time.

A building that was once a cornerstone of retail shopping in the city of Spartanburg has stood boarded up and neglected for years.

“It's a former Montgomery Ward Department store, which was really important. A large department store in the 20th century here. But the building itself hasn't been used for decades now," Christopher George, with the City of Spartanburg, said.

Plans to revitalize the historic building started to gain traction several years ago but were put on hold, until now.
