CHAPEL HILL — Yes, UNC football coach Bill Belichick called Kirk Herbstreit during ESPN’s “College GameDay” show in Week 7.

No, Belichick didn’t realize it was during the show.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, Oct. 13, inside the Kenan Football Center, Belichick confirmed he made the call to Herbstreit.

“He texted me and said, ‘Can we have a quick conversation about this?’ And I said, ‘Sure.’ So I just dialed it and, of course, he didn’t answer,” Belichick said with a smile. “. … Great respect for him. I’ve worked with him a number of times. No, I didn’t realize it was on the air.”
