WASHINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Washington Fire Department lifted its burn ban on Monday.

It was officially lifted at noon on Monday for the city of Washington as well as Central and Pleasant View Fire Protection districts, a Washington Fire Department Facebook post said.

The ban was initially put into effect on Sept. 30, due to the dry conditions and lack of rain.

While the ban has been lifted, fall conditions can still cause fires to spread quickly, so the fire department shared several safety tips: • Avoid starting fires on days when the weather is dry and windy. • Never leave fires unattended and ensure they are completely out before leaving. • Always have water nearby, and have a plan to put out the fire if it starts to spread. • Remove sticks, leaves and dry grass from arou
