TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Tens of thousands of APS and SRP customers are without power in the East Valley after heavy rain and strong winds hit the area on Monday afternoon.
As of 1:30 p.m., more than 16,000 SRP customers and more than 5,100 APS customers didn’t have electricity, primarily in Tempe.
A severe storm warning was issued for the area, which also included Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert and other East Valley communities.

More than half an inch of rain fell in less than 30 minutes in some Tempe neighborhoods.
Monday is a First Alert Weather Day as more flooding is possible .
