After a weekend of several shootings at various homecoming games across the state, Capitol Police said they responded to a shooting at Jackson State University Saturday.

PIO Bailey Martin said around 7:00 p.m. officers responded to JSU stadium in the tailgating area for a person shot.

A juvenile was shot in the abdomen and transported to a nearby hospital. The seriousness of their condition has not been released.

On October 13, Interim Police Chief Tyree Jones said the child was 11 years old. He said that the decision that Capitol police made to put the child inside of their patrol vehicle and rush him to the hospital may have helped save his life. The area was very crowded, and this helped the child get there much quicker.
