ONEIDA, Wis. (WBAY) - Members of the Oneida Nation celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday renewing their stories to pass on to the next generation.

A little rain was not stopping the renewal for the Oneida Nation as they celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day.

“Ceremony of renewal for Indigenous Day. It’s a celebration of where we stand on our land it’s also about the renewal of our teachings that we have as a people,” said Artley Skenandore, Principal of Onedia Nation High School.

The morning began with a sacred tobacco Thanksgiving ceremony, but no photography was allowed at that time.

We’ve been doing this for over the last 15 years and it came from the opportunity for us to look at connecting our young people to the history and the story. and prides the opportunity for us to renew
