PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- WMBD is highlighting voices from the Latino community during our Hispanic Heritage month celebration.

Maria Diaz creates comfort with her crochet needle. She said her passion comes from a hobby filled with joy.

Inside her Peoria home, Diaz uses colors, her creativity, and a crochet needle to turn yarn into a cherished item.

"I've been crocheting since my boys were babies," said Diaz. "I can crochet a blanket in a week. I can do a hat or two in a day."

Her creations bring warmth to newborns, give character to young kids, and offer dignity, to those going through cancer treatments. She creates blankets, scarves, hats, coasters, and even Christmas trees.
