South-eastern Australia will be riding a rollercoaster of unstable weather this week, with top temperatures across capital cities varying by up to 15 degrees.

The wild fluctuations forecast in the coming days are being caused by a collision between warm air from Australia's interior colliding with cold fronts sweeping across the southern mainland, reports Weatherzone.

For multiple states, it will bring a cocktail of average maximum temperatures and typical spring weather.

Sydney, which was basking in a top of 32 degrees on Sunday is headed for more of the same on Friday, before the mercury tumbles on Saturday to a maximum of 21 degrees.

The heat in Melbourne is steadily building and is expected to peak at 30 degrees by Thursday.
