Citing his reform-minded approach and improved community engagement, Pulaski County Sheriff Eric Higgins announced Monday that he would seek a third term in 2026.
Higgins, who was first elected as Pulaski County’s top law enforcement official in 2018, made national headlines last year when he agreed to let filmmakers document Higgins’ efforts to implement a radical new approach to incarceration in a single “pod,” or living unit within the jail. Detainees who previously were locked up for 23 hours per day, with only one hour of recreation, were given freedom to move around the housing unit and into the exercise yard during the day, while deputies were moved out of the pod and did most of their observations remotely via camera.
