ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — Monday is Indigenous People's Day in New Mexico and celebrations have been happening all across the state, including at the Albuquerque BioPark.

Different stations were set up all across the zoo to educate guests on the importance of animals in indigenous cultures. One of the stations was outside the eagle and owl habitats. "In almost every tribe that I have researched so far, eagles and owls have some kind of significance in there," said Guest Experience Administrator ABQ BioPark Tiffani-Rae Briggs. "I really wanted to talk about them because some tribes specifically don't allow tribal members to touch or see owls. But they are important to and are highly respected in indigenous cultures."
