SUGAR LAND, Texas (KIAH) -- Some mosquitos have tested positive for the West Nile Virus in Sugar Land, city officials said on Monday.
The mosquito was found in a mosquito trap near Greatwood Parkway and Wood Dale last week. The city was notified over the weekend that at least one mosquito tested positive for the virus, officials said.
Sugar Land will now increase its mosquito treatment in the surrounding areas and urges residents to take precautionary steps to avoid mosquito bites and exposure to the West Nile Virus.
“Residents should use insect repellent whenever they are outdoors and avoid going outside at dusk and dawn when mosquitos are most active,” Dr. Joe Anzaldua, the city’s medical director and health authority, said in a statement.
