Lots of teams have home run celebrations — the home run jacket, the Wally the Green Monster mask, the cheese head — and for the Mariners, it’s a Home Run Trident.
The Mariners got the idea for the trident in April 2023, inspired by the wave of prop-driven celebrations around baseball. “All these other teams are doing some cool stuff, so why aren’t we doing anything?” shortstop JP Crawford told MLB.com at the time. “And then it just popped up there and then after a game, we’re looking around [online] and thought I found the winner, and we did. Boom.”
The Mariners ordered the trident, originally meant as an accessory for the “Aquaman” movie, off Amazon. It stands more than six feet tall, weighs about 30 pounds and had spikes so sharp they had to be dulled before it was put into use.
