LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - A roughly three-mile dirt road in western Lexington County has become a source of decades-long frustration for residents who say poor maintenance has created unsafe driving conditions.

Pine Grove Road, a state-maintained dirt road connected to paved sections on both ends, serves more than 50 houses along large rural plots near the Aiken County line. Residents say the heavily traveled route has become rough, muddy and dangerous for the commuters, delivery trucks and school buses that rely on it daily.

“It stays rough, and it needs to be paved,” said Coy McCormick, who lives along the road.

McCormick and other locals describe Pine Grove Road as being treated like a “dirt race track” by speeding drivers, but their concerns extend far beyond traffic violations
