Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze announced Monday afternoon that former starting running back Damari Alston is no longer on the team.

Alston was named a team captain at the start of the 2025 season after being named the starter for the first time of his career.

“Damari failed to meet the expectations and standards of our program,” Freeze said. “We love him. Wish him the best. But that’s where it’s at.”

The senior running back rushed for 128 yards on 32 carries and one touchdown during Auburn’s week one victory against Baylor.

After suffering a shoulder injury and sitting out Auburn’s week 2 and 3 games, Jeremiah Cobb saw the majority of the snaps in conference play and is currently the Tigers leading rusher.
