A man will face court after he allegedly set fire to two community sporting facilities in Melbourne earlier this year, causing more than $4 million in damage.

Two council facilities that housed local soccer, AFL, and cricket clubs were burned down in April and May.

The first facility burned down at Capital Reserve in Glen Waverley at about 3am on April 16.

The second building, on Mayfield Drive at Mount Waverley, went up in flames at about 5.15am on May 3.

Police say both buildings were completely destroyed.

A Dandenong man has been charged with two counts of arson and two counts of stealing a motor vehicle.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court on November 7.
