NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Town of Normal has been designated as a "bird city" by the Audubon Council of Illinois because of its commitment to birds and nature.
"Bird City is a program through the National Audubon Society, and it's administered locally through the Illinois Council of the Audubon Council of Illinois," said Mercy Davison, director of zoning and planning for the Town of Normal.
"It is a response to the need to protect habitat for birds and to get people more interested in the natural world around them, which, for many people, birds are like the natural point of entry, because you can see birds just about anywhere."
The town was honored at last week's city council meeting, and for the town, it's a feather in their cap for what they have already, and will continue to do.
