HOUSTON (KIAH) — Texas' rural healthcare system is poised for a significant boost as the state seeks a portion of a $50 billion federal funding aimed at improving rural healthcare infrastructure.

The Texas Human Health and Services Commission is actively pursuing these funds to address the pressing challenges faced by rural hospitals, many of which are at risk of closure due to financial instability.

"Let's be clear, rural hospitals is in trouble," said Terry Scoggin, interim CEO of the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals (TORCH), highlighting the dire situation during a public comment session.
