CHARLESTON - It was a solid week of football for the Eastern Panhandle, with three of the four teams in action earning wins.

There may not have been a bigger win in the area, or around the state, than Jefferson knocking off No. 2 and undefeated George Washington on the road with a thrilling 34-33 victory that came down the wire.

A week earlier, the Cougars (2-4) notched their first win of the year in a dominating win over Hedgesville. Jefferson took the momentum from that game and went into enemy territory, handing the Patriots (6-1) their first loss of the season.

George Washington took an early 7-0 lead after a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Jaden Black four minutes into the game. However, Jefferson tied the game on the very next play, as Tony Allen returned the ensuing kickoff 91 yards,
