CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The race for South Carolina’s governor’s mansion remains highly competitive based on first-quarter fundraising reports filed over the weekend, with multiple candidates claiming victory in different financial metrics.

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette each raised approximately $1 million from donors over the past three months, demonstrating the tight nature of the Republican primary contest.

Wilson reported the highest total fundraising at nearly $1.3 million, though $260,000 of that amount was transferred from his attorney general’s account. While Wilson obtained approval from each donor for the transfers, the figure represents what could be characterized as “new, old money.”
