Another large international airport has come out as refusing to air a partisan political message from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, blaming Democrats for the federal government shutdown.

According to ABC15 News' Rachel Louise Just, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, a major hub for American Airlines and Southwest Airlines in the largest city and county of a significant swing state, says it will not air the broadcast, which is supposed to be a loop of Noem saying, “Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government, and because of this, many of our operations are impacted. Our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government."

It is commonplace for the Secretary of Homeland Security to be featured on a looping message displayed at airport security checkpoints; however, this is typically a nonpartisan message simply instructing passengers to stay safe.

A spokesperson for Sky Harbor told Just that the refusal to air the clip is “consistent with airport policy,” though did not clarify which policy prohibits it.

However, some other airports have voiced concerns the video runs afoul of the federal Hatch Act, which prohibits members of the government, aside from the president and vice president, from using official government resources to promote political messages.

This follows previous reporting that had indicated Sky Harbor wasn't currently airing the messages, as well as several other airports that refused to do so, including Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Portland International Airport, and Westchester County Airport. The county executive of Westchester had called the message "inappropriate, unacceptable, and inconsistent with the values we expect from our nation’s top public officials.”
