LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - After a Lyft driver was found shot to death in Westlake , some rideshare drivers in Lake Charles are expressing concerns about their safety.

7News spoke to one driver, who says she now has second thoughts about driving for Lyft after the killing.

“It hit me hard, it hit me hard. My family has been worried about me doing this for all these years. I refuse, and I’m not going to drive for them,” Karen Penny said.

Penny was a Lyft driver for nine years, and she says she has accepted over 4,000 rides, all of them from strangers. As a passenger, you can get a Lyft without the driver knowing who you’re picking up.

“I’ve always just gone on gut instinct, but Lyft has a way for us to grade or score people, and it’s between one and five,” said Penny.
