CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A structure fire was reported at Billingsville Cotswold Elementary School in southeast Charlotte.

Charlotte Fire Department responded to the fire and said smoke was seen upon arrival.

Medic and CMPD also responded.

The building is currently under construction.

The scene has cleared.

The fire may have started due to a welder cutting pipes during demolition work, Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools said. Nearby debris caught on fire due to sparks.

Firefighters put out the fire in about an hour. There are no reports of injury.
