Akiak man arrested after assaulting juvenile, pointing rifle at family member

Alaska State Troopers have arrested a man in Akiak following a reported assault incident on October 10th.

Troopers say 46-year-old Edwin Nicolai allegedly assaulted a juvenile male and then his girlfriend. When the victim’s family tried to intervene, Nicolai reportedly pointed a rifle at one of the girlfriend’s daughters.

Troopers attempted to make contact with Nicolai at his residence. After obtaining a search warrant, they forced entry and took him into custody. The firearm involved in the incident was recovered.

Nicolai was remanded to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center and faces charges of third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, and fourth-degree assault involving domestic violence.
