MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Construction on dozens of small homes to help put shelter over veterans' heads in Milwaukee is underway.

Veterans Community Project (VCP) of Milwaukee aims to help homeless veterans with a small village of transitional housing.

Forty tiny homes, about 240-square feet each, will serve as a place to stay safe while veterans can get into more permanent housing.

Along with shelter, the village will have a central hub with case managers.

State Senator Patrick Testin supports the project and says it can be essential for veterans struggling with addiction and mental health.
