Child hit and killed by driver in South Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis police were called to a motel in South Memphis after a child was hit by a car.

MPD said officers responded to an accident where a male juvenile pedestrian was struck by a car. They said officers made the scene and located the juvenile, who was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The child was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police detained a female. MPD said they are still investigating what happened.

Police have not said how old the child was, but witnesses who posted about the accident on Facebook referred to the victim as a young child.
