CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - A Mt. Vernon, Illinois man is facing weapons charges after an incident in Carbondale on Sunday.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers were patrolling the 700 block of E. Grand on October 12 when they saw a handgun sitting in plain sight in a parked vehicle at a local business.

When the officers tried to detain the person associated with the vehicle, 20-year-old Albert Thomas, he ran away.

However, Thomas was quickly apprehended and found with another gun.

Police said one of the recovered firearms was reported stolen out of Missouri.

Thomas was arrested and charged with unlawful use of weapons, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting/obstructing Police.
