Last week, we reviewed some early symptoms of breast cancer and how to conduct regular breast self-exams with intent. This week, we’ll focus on the gold standard for breast cancer screening – the mammogram– and what to expect when preparing for this imaging procedure.

A mammogram uses low-dose X-ray to produce specialized images of the inside of the breasts. It can be a critical tool in monitoring breast health and detecting breast cancer in its earliest stages when it’s best treated.

The process typically takes between 20 and 30 minutes, and knowing what to expect can help you feel informed and at ease if you’re nervous for your first mammogram.
