NEDERLAND, Colo. (KDVR) —After last week's horrific fire, which destroyed the main commercial mall in the mountain town of Nederland, a long-time resident is raising money to help feed now-jobless neighbors.
For 13 years, Ross Alper has run the "Lovin Cup Free Community Kitchen."
After the blaze at the Caribou Village, Alper fed first responders.
He says the loss of many businesses located in the Village means the loss of many jobs.
In fact, within the past couple of days, Alper has hired a man who lost his job when the Mexican restaurant was destroyed in the fire.
"As soon as it happened," said Alper, who has been in Nederland for 20 years. "The first thing that came to mind was to step up."
The Soup Kitchen is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. It is located at 34 East 1st Street,
