MCDONOUGH — It was the day before Jessica Collier’s 41st birthday in December 2023 when she felt a lump in her left breast. She said it felt like a cyst once she found it, which she had experienced plenty of, but no one seemed urgent to confirm that to Collier.
There were many delays throughout the process when trying to make an appointment with her normal care provider, Collier said. After getting her first mammogram in February 2024, her original doctor had said Collier could wait three months before her second mammogram appointment.
But while on spring break with her family in April 2024, Collier’s then-5-year-old son said something that made her realize she was being way too patient.
“My son looks at me,” Collier recalled, “and he goes, ‘Mom, when you die, I want dad to kill me so I
