TRUCKEE, Calif. —

As a storm approaches the Sierra, drivers are taking precautions to ensure safe travel along Interstate 80, with Caltrans crews urging caution due to potentially icy roads.

Although rain and snow were not falling for much of Monday night, roads remained wet from earlier showers.

Caltrans crews have posted multiple signs urging drivers to slow down and be cautious of potentially icy roads.

As of Monday night, chain controls are not in effect.

David Vakock, a driver traveling through the area, advised caution, especially as temperatures drop below freezing overnight.

"Slow down. A lot of truck drivers don't want to follow that since chain controls aren't in effect. They're ripping down the mountain and 80,000 pounds can take double the distance, if not triple, to stop
