The son of a woman who was shot dead on her own doorstep has claimed that he and his brother had a confrontation with drug dealers over an unsettled debt.

Jackie Rutter, 53, was killed outside her home on Meadowbrook Road in Moreton, Wirral, after her sons allegedly "ripped off" or "taxed" drugs dealers James Byrne and Preston Connolly.

Byrne, 23, is currently standing trial at Liverpool Crown Court accused of her murder, alongside Simon Allen, 55, Barrie Glynn, 45, and David Harrison, 59. Anna McGinn, 26, Connolly's then-girlfriend, is accused of assisting an offender.
