MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A boy is dead after being struck by a car outside of a motel near I-240 and Airways, the Memphis Police Department said Monday.

Just after 6:15 Monday evening, MPD said, officers were sent to an accident at the Economy Inn motel on Ketchum Road. Police said they found a boy there with severe injuries; he was taken to the hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police said the driver did remain at the scene, and they have one woman detained.
