The embattled boss of Affinity Education is among two executives at the major childcare operator to resign after child safety issues were exposed.

Tim Hickey, who was grilled over his $625,000 pay package at a NSW childcare inquiry in September, and chief operating officer Nishad Alani have left the organisation, Affinity said on Tuesday.

Its board appointed compliance and quality senior advisor Glen Hurley as Mr Hickey's replacement.
