Columbia public school students won't have to worry about doing assignments on snow days in the next school year. Although the Columbia school district had planned to include alternative methods of instruction days in its calendar, these no longer are needed.
Due to legislative changes at the state level, the district calendar already exceeds state requirements for instructional days and instructional hours for students, so snow days will remain snow days.
"This is a clarification not a change to the calendar," said district Chief Human Resources Officer Michelle Holz during Monday night's Columbia Public Schools board meeting, Oct. 13, meaning a board vote wasn't necessary.
