Tinley Marin’s voice cracked, shuddered, then stopped as she tried to control her tears while speaking to the Tybee Island City Council Thursday night.

Martin, an eighth grader at Tybee Island Maritime Academy, was speaking about her beloved TIMA, explaining what she had learned and experienced there in her eight years of attendance. That night, the council would decide if they should section off land in Memorial Park for the school to build there, a topic that had become contentious and divisive for residents.
