Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel called Monday a "historic" day in Israel's history, saying the nation can finally begin to heal.

“Now we can finally breathe and be happy," she told Sky News host Chris Kenny on Tuesday.

“Since October 7, 2023, we’ve been holding our breath. We couldn’t start a recovery process from this deep trauma of that horrendous day where crimes against humanity were committed against our people."

Ms Haskel was inside the Knesset for US President Donald Trump's address on Monday.

She described how lawmakers erupted in applause as footage of returning hostages appeared on screen during President Trump's address.

“There’s so much inspiration and hope for the future. We can finally be happy now,” she said.
