CANFIELD The long-vacant building that once housed a Perkins restaurant on East Main Street in Canfield is scheduled for demolition on Wednesday to make way for a new Dairy Queen, according to the property's owner.
Christine Smith, whose family operates several local Dairy Queen franchises, confirmed the plans to 21 News. Smith said that ground will be broken for the new restaurant sometime after the demolition.
The former Perkins, located at 587 E. Main St., closed its doors in August 2019 following a bankruptcy court ruling. The Smith family purchased the property for $600,000 in April 2021. At the time, Smith said she thought it would be a good location for a Dairy Queen, but had not finalized plans.
The new Dairy Queen will become a neighbor of several restaurants in the area,
