Kentucky's largest school system is shrinking, with the latest enrollment numbers showing Jefferson County Public School leaders slightly overestimated how many students would show up for school this fall .
In January, Jefferson County Board of Education members received enrollment projections for each school across the district, estimating about 91,000 students would enroll in K-12 schools, along with another about 7,000 students in schools that serve students with specific needs, early childhood programs and other specialized areas outside the traditional classroom.
