HOUSTON (KIAH) — A Houston man is suing a local contractor and hotel developer for more than $1 million after being seriously injured in a downtown hotel explosion.

Michael Market was one of six workers hurt in the blast at the 17-story Holiday Inn Express on October 2. The lawsuit claims the companies failed to take proper safety precautions during construction, leading to the explosion that caused structural damage and shattered windows throughout the building.

Market’s attorneys say he continues to require ongoing medical treatment and is seeking accountability for the incident. They add that the lawsuit highlights the importance of safe construction practices to prevent future workplace injuries.
