A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed at a property in Warrington.

The attack unfolded at an address on Manchester Road in the Woolston area on Monday afternoon (October 13). Emergency crews raced to the scene at around 4pm.

A 55-year-old woman was airlifted to Aintree Hospital after being stabbed, Cheshire Police said. In an update today, a spokesperson for the force said she is now fighting for her life in hospital in a critical condition.

A 61-year-old man, from Warrington, was arrested on the scene of the attack on suspicion of attempted murder.

He remains in custody to be quizzed by detectives, police said.
