KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — A deputy who was critically injured after being attacked by a suspect on a June episode of "On Patrol Live" is now suffering complications from his hospitalization, according to his girlfriend.

Deputy Dalton Swanger spent several days at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after being struck in the head by either a large rock or brick while responding to reports of gunshots near Stanley Road on June 22, the Knox County Sheriff's Office said.

Swanger's girlfriend, Stephania Pumphrey, said Swanger's complications stem from being on a ventilator while he was in a coma. He suffers from a condition called tracheal stenosis, which has caused his trachea to narrow. Pumphrey said it could have been caused by him being forcefully intubated while he was having a seizu
