Last week didn’t have enough rainfall to put a dent in Michigan’s drought. Now you can see how your areas ranks in dryness.
Here’s the drought status as of October 7.
Virtually all of the southern two-thirds of Lower Michigan is at least abnormally dry. Moderate drought is the first official level of drought, and it covers 40 percent of Michigan right now. The severe drought stretches west to east across central Michigan, with eight percent parched.
A strip from the Thumb through Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, Mount Pleasant, Big Rapids and Pentwater is in the continuous swath of severe drought. There is also an area of severe drought west of Grand Rapids, near Allendale and Grand Haven. The area of severe drought covers eight percent of Michigan’s land.
