Oh, Elle. Everything old truly is new again, including our long-held grudge against the dress-over-pants fad. I have yet to see an instance where this is necessary or remotely improves anything, and I would certainly include this one. I can’t tell whether the original runway iteration is cut differently, or whether the model is making a point of holding up the front — via the hands in her pockets — to give the outfit more clarity. I still don’t love it, but it has a point of view? The way Elle wears it, you can barely even tell there ARE pants under there. In some pictures, if she’s standing with her legs tightly together, it just looks like a solid, non-sparkly hem. What is the point? They basically styled this to take the style out of it.
