Boro parted company with Carrick this summer after two-and-a-half years in charge ended without a Premier League return being delivered. Replaced by Edwards, Boro enjoyed their best start to a league campaign when going unbeaten in eight games, but lost that record and their top spot last time out before the international break at Portsmouth.
