A bench headed by Chief Justice BR Gavai asked the ED whether the state police could not look into the matter.

The ED has alleged that the state government-owned corporation, also known as Tasmac, which has a monopoly over the sale of alcoholic beverages in Tamil Nadu, is at the centre of a Rs 1,000-crore corruption network involving officials, liquor distilleries and bottling companies. The probe is based on cases filed by the state against Tasmac officials since 2017.

This is the second time in six months that the court has questioned the ED’s actions in the matter.

Kumar was found dead at his home in Chandigarh on October 7.

The police said he died by suicide. In a “final note” recovered from the scene, Kumar named 11 serving and retired officers, including Kapur and Rohtak Superint
