A Belleville man is facing charges after allegedly ramming into a police cruiser and fleeing the scene.

Friday morning around 7 a.m. Belleville Police responded to a report of possible impaired driver in the city’s west end, locating the suspect parked across the roadway blocking traffic and asleep behind the wheel.

When officers woke the male, he drove into a police cruiser and fled at a high rate of speed.

Officers engaged in a pursuit, but it was discontinued due to public safety.

A short time later, officers observed the suspect vehicle unoccupied in a parking lot on North Front St.

The suspect was arrested around 10:15 a.m.
