New Delhi: Instagram is rolling out a new safety framework for teenage users, modeled after the PG-13 movie rating system, to limit exposure to adult and harmful content. The Meta-owned platform said this update will ensure that teenagers see posts that are broadly equivalent to what they might encounter in a PG-13 movie — meaning mild language, limited violence, and age-appropriate content.
The company said this is its most significant update to teen accounts since the feature was introduced last year. Teens under 18 will automatically be placed into a “13+” content setting, and they will not be able to turn it off without their parents’ consent. The system will begin rolling out across the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, before expanding globally next year.
