(WTVO) — President Donald Trump on Monday suggested he could invoke the Insurrection Act to address violent crime in Chicago, saying he’s “allowed” to use the law but hasn’t done so yet because he’s confident in his legal appeals.

“I’m allowed to use the Insurrection Act,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. “I’m not going to go there yet, because I’m winning on appeal. You're right. We're losing with radical left judges, generally, radical left judges, and we're winning on appeal. So we'll see what happens.”

Trump made the remarks while returning from a Middle East peace summit focused on ending the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and securing the release of hostages. During the flight, he fielded questions from the press, including about public safety back home.
